Uganda has made a significant impact at the International Tourism Exhibition and Conference, “Turkmen Travel 2026,” currently taking place in Ashgabat.
The country’s participation is coordinated by the Uganda Embassy in Tehran, which is also accredited to Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Tourism, and the Uganda Tourism Board.
This initiative aims to expand tourism diplomacy, explore new markets, and solidify Uganda’s reputation as a premier global travel destination.
As the only African country represented at the Expo, Uganda’s debut on this prestigious platform highlights its intentional outreach to the international tourism community.
The Ugandan delegation is led by Ambassador Twaha Matata and includes Mr. Geoffrey Sseremba, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, along with a team of prominent tour operators.
The Uganda Pavilion has attracted considerable attention, showcasing the country’s extraordinary biodiversity, stunning landscapes, and unique wildlife experiences.
A notable highlight was the visit from H.E. Seyidova Bahar Hojamuradovna, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, which underscores the growing interest in Uganda’s tourism offerings and strengthens bilateral relations.
During his address to visitors at the pavilion, Ambassador Matata warmly welcomed tourists from Turkmenistan and the surrounding region. He emphasized Uganda’s extraordinary tourism potential, featuring its remarkable flora and fauna, majestic natural attractions like the snow-capped Mt. Rwenzori, the breathtaking Source of the Nile, and majestic Mountain Gorillas.
Uganda is actively pursuing substantive bilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan, exploring potential agreements in tourism development and cultural exchange, along with strategic engagements with the Ministry of Education to foster meaningful people-to-people connections.
