The Calsaar Cultural Initiative has officially launched the Culture and Heritage Awareness Marathon 2025, an event designed to celebrate Uganda’s cultural diversity and promote the preservation of ethnic minority traditions.
At the launch, the founder of Calsaar, Steven Sekajja, emphasized that the marathon is not just a sporting event, but a national celebration of identity and unity.
“The Marathon is an initiative to raise awareness about the value of Uganda’s cultural heritage and a way to reconnect citizens with their roots through active participation.”
The marathon is set to take place on May 18, 2025, at Kitante Primary School in Kampala.
Participants will take part in a 5-kilometer run, representing their individual cultural backgrounds and celebrating national unity. Proceeds from the event will go toward cultural documentation and indigenous tree planting projects in Soroti District,” he said
Tickets for the marathon are priced at UGX 25,000 for adults, while students can participate for a subsidized fee of UGX 2,000. Student tickets will be available through university tourism associations and relevant academic faculties, while regular tickets can be purchased online via Quicket.com by searching for “Culture and Awareness Marathon 2025.”
All ticket holders will receive running vests at the event venue between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. on the day of the race.
The Culture and Heritage Awareness Marathon 2025 is positioned as a unifying event that brings together Ugandans from all walks of life to celebrate, preserve, and promote the country’s rich and diverse cultural history.
