NTEOF Backs Tourism Events as Uganda’s Next Economic Growth Engine

The National Tourism Events Organizers Federation (NTEOF) has, following the success of the just concluded Rwenzori Marathon, commended the growing role of tourism events in driving Uganda’s economy, creating opportunities for local communities, attracting investment and positioning the country as a competitive tourism destination.

The National Tourism Events Organizers Federation is an industry body in that unites top organizers of tourism, cultural, and sports events in the country with over 50 registered members.

Speaking to the media during the Rwenzori Marathon, NTEOF President Peter Sebulime Peter, alias Demo Riley, noted that events like these were not merely sporting activities but powerful platforms for tourism promotion, business growth, job creation and destination marketing.

“Tourism events bring people together, create business opportunities for local communities, attract visitors and showcase Uganda to the world,” Demo Riley said.

He added that the Rwenzori Marathon, which attracts participants from Uganda and beyond, has continued to strengthen the country’s tourism events calendar while showcasing the beauty and tourism potential of the Rwenzori region.

The NTEOF impact advert was also showcased on the main stage, highlighting the federation’s growing contribution to promoting tourism events and demonstrating their wider economic and social impact.

According to Mr Sebulime, the federation is currently advocating for tax relief on event tickets, pointing out that tourism events bring in high revenues through transport, hospitality, and accommodation

During the same event, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Juliana Kagwa, commended the NTEOF’s work and pledged full support towards the federation’s efforts to strengthen Uganda’s tourism events sector.

The Federation, Sebulime said, will continue working closely with UTB and other stakeholders to position Uganda as a leading MICE and tourism events destination in Africa, while creating greater opportunities for communities, businesses and event organizers across the country.
