The Uganda Tourism Association (UTA), the umbrella organization representing all tourism trade associations in Uganda, has announced the appointment of Muhereza Kyamutetera as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1st, 2024.

Kyamutetera brings over 20 years of experience, 15 of which have been at the C-suite level, spanning a wide range of sectors including tourism, financial services, energy, ICT, and manufacturing.

His expertise in strategy development, business growth, marketing, and stakeholder relations will be vital as he takes the helm of UTA.

Kyamutetera is known for his deep passion and knowledge of Uganda’s tourism sector.

UTA President Yewagnesh Biriggwa expressed enthusiasm about Kyamutetera’s appointment, noting that it comes at a crucial time as the tourism sector works to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

“We are excited about the fresh perspectives and diverse skill sets he brings to UTA and the industry, where he is no stranger,” Biriggwa said.

She also highlighted the appointment as a major milestone in the board’s 100-day agenda, following their election in June 2024.

Kyamutetera himself expressed eagerness to take on the role.

“I am excited to infuse my professional experience with my passionate love for Destination Uganda. I look forward to serving as a bridge between the private sector, the government, and development partners, to boost tourism revenues and household incomes,” he said.

UTA comprises nine member associations and two affiliate members, collectively representing over 2,000 enterprises in the tourism sector.

It plays a key role in advocating for policies that promote sustainable tourism development in Uganda.

Kyamutetera’s leadership is expected to further the association’s mission of building a professional, competitive, and inclusive tourism industry that contributes to Uganda’s national development.
