Ugandan Travel visual artist, storyteller, and wildlife enthusiast, Derrick Ssenyonyi has announced the launch of the inaugural exhibition of some of his works, later this year in Kampala.
The Exhibition themed, “Timeless Frames”, will take place on September 20, 2024, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
This event will showcase some of his captivating journey through different parts of the country and beyond including breath-taking landscapes, wildlife, and rich cultural heritage with an emphasis on the vital role of conservation.
Ssenyonyi made the announcement on Friday at the Kampala Serena hotel to an audience that included the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku, representatives from the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the visual arts sector and content creators.
According to the exhibition organisers, the event promises to be also designed to highlight the power of visual storytelling in promoting tourism and conservation.
“I am thrilled to officially announce the launch of ‘Timeless Frames.’ This exhibition is more than just an art display; it is a narrative of Uganda’s natural beauty and cultural richness. I hope it will inspire viewers to appreciate and protect our unique environment and heritage but most importantly highlight the role of creative storytelling in promoting tourism,” Ssenyonyi said.
He added that this particular event will be the first of many, as it will be held annually to celebrate Uganda’s visual arts and storytelling.
The yearly showcase will bring together artists, tourists, and conservationists to honour the natural and cultural treasures of Uganda and create a tradition of appreciating and safeguarding the nation’s beauty.
The State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku expressed delight for the event which he said exemplifies his docket’s mandate to promote and harness the power of communication for national development.
Visual arts play a crucial role in tourism by through showcasing a country’s natural and cultural assets in ways that resonate deeply with audiences.
In Uganda, artists like Derrick Ssenyonyi use their talents to bring global attention to the country’s natural beauty and heritage, promoting tourism and encouraging conservation.
“As the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, we are committed to fostering innovation and supporting initiatives that highlight Uganda through effective visual storytelling. This exhibition not only showcases our country’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage but also aligns with our goal of enhancing Uganda’s global presence. We look forward to seeing how ‘Timeless Frames’ will inspire both local and international audiences,” he said.
According to Stephen Masaba, the Director Tourism and Business development at the Uganda Wildlife Authority noted that the commented on the exhibition was testament to the power of visual arts in promoting the country’s tourism and highlighting the importance of conservation.
“Derrick Ssenyonyi’s work captures the essence of Uganda, and we are proud to support this initiative. It aligns perfectly with our vision of conserving for generations,” he said.
Following the launch event on September 20 2024, the exhibition will continue to be showcased from October 1 to 31, 2024, at the Summit View Residences, Naguru.
This month-long exhibition will be open to the public, offering visitors with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the stunning visuals of Uganda’s landscapes and wildlife, as seen through Derrick’s lens.

Tickets for the launch of the “Timeless Frames” exhibition are priced at Shs 200,000 per person and Shs 3,000,000 per table.
